About the Lesvos Plant Medicine Conference Center Library

The original idea and motivation for the LPMCCL was for it to be a resource for information about plant medicine and to support local communities in Lesvos. The ultimate goal is the establishment of a physical non-lending library and conference center near the village of Vrissa in the southern part of the island. Recent events, however, which include earthquakes, forest fires and the pandemic, have put this on hold for the time being.

Our aim to support the use of best practices for sustainable agriculture. These cover areas ranging from the production of plant medicine products from local sources to the use of sustainable architecture techniques with environmentally friendly carbon-neutral materials.

We are not specialists in the fields that the center intends to focus on. However, we are motivated by strong links to Lesvos and our own desire to learn and to contribute to the local community. We believe that a healthy lifestyle and local, traditional practices go hand in hand. Lesvos possesses a highly diverse natural environment as well as a long and rich cultural heritage, and it provides an ideal setting for what we are aiming for.

In addition to providing information about local plants and their traditional medicinal uses, the center intends eventually to offer seasonal residential courses for visitors in traditional olive grove settings.

This website has a number of objectives. One is to help us strengthen our own knowledge base, since we are also on a learning curve. A second objective is to provide background material for the LPMCCL. This includes information about the natural environment and the historical and cultural features of the island, reports of relevant local events and issues and links to specialised reports of particular interest. Finally, the site aims to serve as an outlet for our own views, and the views of others, on matters which we consider to be significant either through occasional blogs or via links to selected third-party web posts.
