Although the sea daffodil, or sea lily, (Pancratium maritinum) may have some limited medicinal applications such as for skin blemishes, it is not a medicinal plant in the usual sense. However, it is undoubtedly beneficial for one’s mental health with its visual appeal and its pleasant scent.
The sea daffodil appears in clusters on sandy beaches throughout the Mediterranean basin towards the end of summer, but its habitats are now threatened in many areas due to increasing touristic activity. Collection of the flowers is also very tempting for some people. As as result, this plant is now a protected species in many areas including Lesvos.
